Developing Next Generation Diesel Engines for Professional Applications
Cox have brought together WW2 engineering and Formula 1 innovation to deliver a diesel outboard with similar power density to a gasoline outboard. The Cox diesel outboard, the CXO300 has all the advantages of diesel inboards - safety, fuel logistics, fuel economy and longevity - but in an outboard package. The flexibility, power density and performance of gasoline outboards is maintained in the CXO300, with its innovative supercharged design.
The presentation looks at four areas where efficiency is a central theme for Cox. The first is the innovative engine design which significantly reduces fossil fuel consumption and reduces total cost of ownership. The second is the interaction with professional boat users, builders and distributors to establish what their current needs are. The third is a series of engineering initiatives to improve efficiency. The fourth is to ensure the powertrains are hybrid ready.
John Allen - Founder & CCO, COX Powertrain
John Allen co-founded Co Powertrain with maverick engineer David Cox in 2009 and took CEO / CFO role. He worked with Chairman to raise £20m from HNI's and led the team that raised £4m in grants from MoD and TSB.
John built and managed the team to deliver innovative new high power / density diesel outboard engine, which has gained significant interest from the military and workboat marine sectors in the UK and US.
As development phase moves towards production, handed over CEO role in July 2014 to Tim Routsis, ex CEO of Cosworth, whilst continuing as CFO and more recently as CCO.
